I always with colour picking, the only way that seems to work is by layout out a range of colours and shades which are fairly similar and then simply picking the one that impacts just the right amount to suggest the intended tone of the company.
My initial starting point colour is one of the strong choices, also the very last has a nice shade to it. It can be applicable to the range in block colour as well as type without being overbearing.
