Exhibition Guide

Th exhibition guide was good fun to design. Up until now everything I had designed was directly to do with the brand image or at least the promotion of the exhibition. Finally I had a chance to be creative with some type. Although, not too creative as this had to be an accessible piece of editorial.

Regarding layout I took experimentation from some work by 'North' for the 'Photographer's Gallery and also for 'Citibank.' Typographically this puts constraints on the space for copy, but adds movement and momentum to the layout which is good when reading a body of text.

The final design came out well. I had to print out the final for 'shooting' on some nice but not ideal stock. It was rather thick and therefore did not fold properly into the constatina. Also it was impossible to get it printed at 100% scale, so the photographed image is actually at 67%. But this was rather fruitful as I learned that avante garde is still legible below 5pt. I asked John what he thought of it and in his words; "I can read it fine with my bad eyes so it must be fine." Or something along those lines.

The two designs in this guide seen above are not my own, however in the next print they were my own. I quickly designed a couple of posters for Gill Sans and Helvetica which can be seen in a later post. HOWEVER, unfortunately my mac decided it would be a good time to corrupt a handful of my most recent files, so I never got to print them out to scale, or even re-open them, so the only evidence of them is on the final boards and photographs. Oh well... :(
